Hello, dearies! It is me, Rebecca!
If some of you do not know yet, I am an artist except of bloggering. I create unique berets with wool paintings on them.
Today I would like to open slightly the mysterious veil and to show you, how magic is created in my cozy workshop.
The technique is called “dry felting” or “needle felting”.
Necessary tools:
- Felting brush or sponge.
- Special felting needles of different thiknesses.
- Scissors.
- Inspiration.

Dry felting tools.
And here is a felting brush, close view.

Felting brush
The felted needles with notches. These are my “paint brushes”.

Felting needles
Pure felting wool in different colour serves as paints. It is very soft and pleasant to the touch.

Felting wool
And actually the “canvas”. For this purpose can be used any thing made of pure wool. In my case, these are high-quality woolen berets (100% wool).

Wool berets
This is where the creative process itself begins. The most favourite stage of mine is selection of suitable shades of wool in the colour of beret so, that result will be harmonious and not too motley.
The more shades there are, the more natural the painting will be.

Felting wool colours
The wool is plucked off in small strands and is driven into the beret fabric with a felting needle.

Felting process
That is how a new painting “wool by wool” in dry felting technique is born.
And here is a result: painting “Cherry Blossom”.

Each piece is unique. It’s like in painting, when every time you get something completely new. The creation process takes 5-9 hours. (It was one beret that I was making for 3 days!).
It is worn with great pleasure. Such a headwear requires compliance with certain rules of care, like any wooly thing. In such case, the beret will prove to be your faithful companion and original accessory for many years.
